Chapter #: 6
Chapter Name: Dhyana Yoga / Atma Samyama Yoga ( ಧ್ಯಾನಯೋಗಃ / ಆತ್ಮಸಂಯಮಯೋಗಃ)
Total verses (slokas) in this chapter: 47
Adhyaya - 6, Dhyana Yoga Chapter of Gita (here after referred as BG) - The core idea in this chapter is - "To Give up Selfish nature". Dhyana can get weak in mind when we have kalmasha (impurity) in mind. Hence Krishna asks to give up on selfish vow and be determined in mind to do so.
BG:
Krishna says: Man has the ability, power and all freedom to either raise himself to higher levels or degrade himself to stoop lower. His mind can be his friend in his journey of life or his hard core enemy. His karma alone is the cause for his betterment or his degrading nature. Every mans Atmodhara is in his very own hands.

BG:
Arjuna then asks - He agrees that one should work for Atmodhara of his own self but what should he do if he is unable to get focus or concentration to achieve that?
Arjuna Says: The mind is very restless, turbulent, strong and obstinate, O Krishna. It appears to me that it is more difficult to control than the wind.

In this below verse of 568, DVG presents the problem but in the next verse of 375 he presents the solution to the problem in such clarity to simplify the BG. DVG says one should sweet talk to mind to tell it hope stories, please it with little sweet presents to keep it happy so as to make it listen to you in end to forget its bigger asks. Saying NO to it everytime in an effort to control it will never work.

"Like how one cajoles a stubborn cranky child through sweet candies, short stories and deviates the kid to forget his initial want, so does one need to tame his mind by yielding to it a little to please and staying firm on others to make it forget eventually. Just like hitting or punishing the child wont fetch good results, being stubborn with one's own mind to control it would never work - Mankutimma"
Sundara Dasa (to Ajmair Nawab when nawab comes to him to seek peace) quotes: There are 3 qualities for mind:
1) ಮಲಿನತೆ - Malinathe (dirt) : Often happens when we think of others (at times knowingly by judging them or ill talking about them, and at times unknowingly where we form impressions about them). To get rid of this, one should always think good (Shuddha Vichara). Keep that as his daily practice and the dirt will disappear slowly.
2) ಚಂಚಲತೆ - Chanchalathe (Fickle / Volatile / restless) - Can never see clearly. To get rid of this perform Dhyana
3) ಚೈತನ್ಯದ ನಿರಾಕರಣೆ - Chaitanyada Nirakarane. - After first 2, make mind turn inwards and perform tatva chintane.
BG:
This chapter has details on "How to do Dhyana" in about 15 verses from krishna where he deep dives into it by answering questions like "Which place to sit", "How to sit", "How to breathe" etc
in below verse, Krishna says, just Dhyana alone is of no good. One should also be conscious of what he eats and what he does, as it has direct influence on how he thinks and his mind. "Those who are temperate in eating and recreation, balanced in work, and regulated in sleep and when awake, can mitigate all sorrows by practicing Yog"

"When the world has all temptations of beauty, taste, aroma which can be felt through senses of man, it creates hunger / desires in him - in both his body and mind. will the mind then stay quiet if its hunger needs are not met? To kill such natural response of senses, to make the senses not to function as per its desired quality - is the method of Hata Yoga (to control mind). Instances like "a dumb person is not equivalent to a quiet person", "A toothless person not equivalent to a dieting person", "A weak person is not equivalent to a saint" - do not qualify strength, but rather its deficiency. So does, making senses not perform as per its desired nature is not a strength but deficiency. to win over them is not to mean to kill them, but to let them experience all it is capable of and still have a grip on them to not drive them in wrong path is real strength - is real raja yoga, is real victory - Mankutimma"
