KumaravyasaBharata : AadiParva

1) Mahabharata took 3 years to compose by Vyasa and Ganapa
2) It takes 12 complete years to read every verse and understand along this epic.

3) Krishna's introduction happens only at Draupadi Swayamvara

4) There are only 2 people in this whole world who has won over Moha/Kama : one is Hanuma other is Bhishma!

5) Gandhari carried over pregnancy for 2 years only to end up tearing her womb down by herself on hearing Kunti gave birth to a son first before her. This episode is so horrifying!

6) Kunti conceives hearing Gandhari is pregnant. All the co sister competition tingle is there.

7) Bheema seems more dearer for his love towards his brothers. He is the main triggering reason to kindle the rivalry between Kauravas and Pandavas as he mocks and defeats Kauravas at every game since chilhood. He is son of Vayu and is so powerful that when he was a kid his mother Kunti accidentally drops him from her hand from top of a mountain hut and when he falls in the valley below, the hard stone on floor has cracks but baby is smiling. This comes as a cute narration!

8) Adiparva starts with birth of Vyasa and Bhishma and ends with Khandava Dahana
9) Vyasa is son of Satyavathi and Parashara while Bhishma is son on Ganga and Shantanu

10) Vyasa is the biological father of Dhritarastra and Pandu and hence Mahabharata is the story of battle between his own grand kids

11) Kunti was about age 11 when she tries the boon given by doorvasa out of curiosity. She begs and pleads surya to pls go away it was a mistake to call upon him , it was not intended, but he denies. She later carries pregnancy and then gives birth to Karna and abandons him for the fear of society.

12) Draupadi and Drishtadhyumna took birth to avenge Dronacharya. They came to life out of fire sacrifice and never had the baby stage

13) When Draupadi first sees Krishna in her Swayamvara, her brother Dhristadhyumna asks her to pick him by highlighting all his powers and strength, and Krishna happens to be the first person she sees with her eyes locked (doesn't even look at all other kings until then) and says back to bro, I get a revered guru feeling when I see him not that of a husband.

14) First advice Kunti gives Draupadi when she enters their small hut in hiding, after Arjun wins her at Swayamvara, is to separate whatever dish she prepares into two equal portions and reserve one half of that portion only to Bheema and serve other half portion to remaining people in the house (typical mom-in-law advice eh? ).

*Note: These are personal notes based off on recordings heard from Kumaravyasa bharatha (Karnata Bharatha Kathaamanjari) vyakhyana from Muttor Krishnamoorthy and Hosahalli Keshavamoorthy.

Good introduction Rups. (I will call you Rups, Thriru is bit difficult for me to get it right :D). Lot of interesting things. Although I love and seen Mahabharat in TV, I never read it. So I guess I'll learn lot of new things from your posts.

I'm interested to know how you compose these points. Do you read the whole chapter and try to give the feel of it by composing the important points? The points are purely based on the story or on your perception too? The 4th point about Hanuman and Bhishma are the only people in the world to win over Moha/Kama - How sure we can be that they are the only ones?
