Bhagavadgeeta - Adhyaya 3

Chapter #: 3
Chapter Name: Karma Yoga (ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗಃ)
Total verses (slokas) in this chapter: 43

Adhyaya - 3, Karma Yoga Chapter of Gita (here after referred as BG) - In this chapter, Krishna explains in great detail of how its is obligatory for every living being to perform their prescribed duties (karma).Further the Lord explains why such duties must be performed, what benefit is gained by performing them, what harm is caused by not performing them. Plus what actions lead to bondage and what actions lead to salvation.Hence this chapter - "The Eternal Duties of Human Beings".

When Arjuna requests Krishna to pick one definite path for him (either Gnaana Marga or Karma Marga) and not confuse him with both, Krishna makes an attempt to help him understand both are not independent but rather one is inherently dependent on other. Gnaana can only be earned by consistently performing Karma.

This chapter is all about Karma. When doing Karma, it mainly says:
1) Do it without any Phalapekshe. Nishkama Karma. - without any expectations
2) Do it leaving any mamate or manasina vikara.

BG:

How should the act of duty (Karma) be? Krishna says: The spiritually-minded, who eat food that is first offered in sacrifice (who shares their earnings with others by considering it as prasaadaa), are released from all kinds of sin. Others, who cook food for their own enjoyment (live for only themselves), verily eat only sin.
